Safety and reliability as our first priority…

Belgium/Puurs, February 16, 2011 - For the second time, Fiege Belgium has obtained an AEO-certificate. Last year, the certificate was awarded to Fiege Antwerp, this year the two other sites of the Group in Belgium where not only warehousing under customs surveillance and customs clearance procedures but also excise duties play an important part, received this important award. Thanks to his recognition, all Fiege sites in Belgium are now AEO certified.

This new recognition proves that Fiege is a reliable partner for the customs authorities on all supply chain process levels as to the safety of material movements and material warehousing and for a seamless treatment of customs and excise declarations.

The AEO certificate was solemnly handed over on February 16th 2011 on the Fiege site in Puurs I by Mr. Michael Van Giel, Regional Director Customs & Excise Duties Antwerp. This recognition is a reward for the efforts that Fiege has put forward in a process in which all operational, financial and safety aspects of the company have been thoroughly investigated and evaluated. Antwerp and its surrounding area has about 3.000 potential AEO candidates but so far only a very small part (about 120 companies) have been effectively rewarded with the AEO certificate.

The AEO recognition was preceded by a number of thorough customs audits, according to Mr. Van Giel of Regional Director Customs & Excise Duties Antwerp it is one of the most severe audits in Europe, but Fiege could present a positive balance as to the internal organization, its operational systems and solvability. Obtaining the AEO certification offers a number of advantages: companies that have been awarded with this status have priority treatment in customs clearance procedures and are less often subject to physical and non-physical checks compared to those companies that do not comply with the AEO requirements.  Koert Damveld, CEO at Fiege for the Benelux and France region, is rejoiced with this recognition: “The AEO status confirms our reputation on safety and reliability level. That is what we have always strived for ever since the start-up of our company. Thanks to the recognition by the European customs authorities we now have an important stagger to offer our clients a reliable, perfect and very fast service. Not only today but tomorrow as well.”
